Through the Bible in One Year

After watching the movie, Groundhog Day, I pondered the question that Rita asked Phil, “Is this how you would spend eternity?” Phil, played by Bill Murray, was throwing cards into a hat. He got pretty good after practicing for 8-10 hours a day for 6 months. Sometimes I think I’m d
oing the same thing over and over and most of what I do doesn’t really matter. Eternity, for Christians, begins as soon as we make a profession of faith. But, is that all there is? Is a profession of faith enough? In Mathew 7:21 Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. What should Christians be doing with our lives on earth? Here is a short list:
Pray
Read Your Bible
Be Thankful
Be Forgiving
Reflect on your own sinfulness
Be ready to help
Be aware of your behavior
In Paul’s 2nd book to Timothy, he encourages him to, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.” Key is accurately handling. False teachers quarrel about the meaning of words and debate pointless matters. Since God speaks to us through His word, I decided to read through the Bible in one year and write about my observations. The first time I read through, I was 22 and a new Christian. I plowed through the King James version from Genesis to Revelation. This time, I am going to read through chronologically; in the order events occur. I will blog about my progress from time to time. Here is the plan for the first 30 days.
